DESCRIPTION:
Curriculum is everything that happens! It's ideas, not materials. What we plan and where we think the curriculum should go isn't as important as
where children go with it. Learn how to capitalize on topics that emerge from the children's interests, passions or personal experience. Discover fun and "brain-friendly"
ways to connect science, math, art, literacy and social studies to your integrated curriculum.
OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Learn how to incorporate important content and processes into meaningful, child-centered learning experiences.
- Recognize and support children's construction of knowledge.
- Discuss topics of study that emerge from the children's interests, passions, or personal experience.

Participants will explore and discover "brain-friendly" activities and experiences that are concrete, hands-on, multi-sensory, open-ended, meaningful and relevant.
They will learn how to integrate activities and experiences that will enhance all aspects of children's development --physical, social, emotional and cognitive.
SUMMARY:
Curriculum is an organized framework that delineates the content children are to learn, the processes through which children achieve the identified curricular goals,
what teachers can do to help children achieve these goals, and the context in which teaching and learning occur. For children to construct knowledge and make learning
meaningful and relevant, curriculum should reflect the interest, experiences and needs of the children. Integration is a strategy to make curriculum content meaningful
for young children. Developmentally appropriate curriculum is integrated curriculum; that is, it is woven across many subject areas. It provides an organizing topic
or concept within the children's range of experience that allows children to explore, interpret, and engage in learning activities that draw on goals from one or more
subject-matter disciplines. The project approach or 'global approach' to curriculum is designed to build children's interest and help them begin to apply what they
learn to solve meaningful problems. This is supported by research on brain development that indicates the degree to which the human brain functions optimally when
processing meaningful information.
